An amateur astronomer has recorded images of the out-of-control US satellite as it tumbles back to Earth.

UARS could land anywhere between 57 degrees north and 57 degrees south of the equator - most of the populated world.
Nasa says that most of the satellite will break or burn up before reaching Earth.
But scientists have identified 26 separate pieces that could survive the fall through the atmosphere. This debris could rain across an area 400-500km (250-310 miles) wide.

The 1 in 3,200 risk to public safety is higher than the 1 in 10,000 limit that Nasa aims for.
But agency officials stress that nobody has ever been hurt by objects re-entering from space.

There are two ways of cutting a deficit: raising taxes or reducing spending. Raising taxes means taking money from the rich. Cutting spending means taking money from the poor. Not in all cases of course: some taxation is regressive; some state spending takes money from ordinary citizens and gives it to banks, arms companies, oil barons and farmers. But in most cases the state transfers wealth from rich to poor, while tax cuts shift it from poor to rich.

Treasury minister Danny Alexander has said plans for public sector pensions will "protect them for the long term".

In a speech in London he said proposals were "not an assault" on pensions and accused some unions of spreading "scare stories" about government plans.

With the introduction of the average of years service wage/salary, there will be a noticeable reduction in the pension one can expect, and the more years you have to be taken into account, then the greater the disparity will be between an average pension, and one based on the final year's wage/salary.

Danny Alexander says, "I think that's a very fair and balanced offer".

Of course he will say that, what else can you expect from him and his gang, they are all Tories, and they don't give a shit for the welfare of the workers, working or retired, after all, Danny &Co are all very comfortable sitting on their £millions.

The directors who ran the MG Rover group when it collapsed have been disqualified as directors.

Peter Beale, Nick Stephenson, John Edwards and John Towers - known as the Phoenix Four - have voluntarily agreed a ban for between three and six years.
The disqualifications by the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, follow a "lengthy and complex investigation" into MG's collapse.
The men said they do not accept any allegations of wrong-doing.

It hard to know what makes Luke Johnson tick. He is one of Britain's cheerleaders for entrepreneurial capitalism, writing a national newspaper column that regularly decries the stultifying effect of red tape on small businesses. Filthy lucre is certainly a motivator for a man who describes himself as an unrepentant capitalist. "It [capitalism] is not a dirty, grubby pastime, as some would have us believe," he says. His own ventures have yielded him a fortune estimated at £120m, much accumulated after owning and selling UK restaurant brands such as Pizza Express, Strada and Belgo, as well as higher-end London eateries such as Le Caprice and The Ivy.

Nick Clegg will urge the world to make the most of what he says is a new mood

UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has defended military action in Libya and hailed a "new axis of openness" in global affairs in a keynote speech.

He insisted Libya is different from the war in Iraq, which he opposed, and argued that "law-abiding liberal interventionism" is not dead.

Clegg opposed the Iraq invasion because he was a bystander, a Lib-Dem nonentity, but this time he is the megalomaniac Cameron's right hand man.

While Ridley Scott’s Gladiator lowered the drawbridge for a new generation of swords-and-sandals adventures (for films set in Britain, “mud and mayhem” might be more apt), nothing has come close to reaching that film’s epic grandeur or all-round entertainment.

It’s a tough genre, to be sure. And with The Eagle, even the hitherto watertight record of Scotland’s Kevin Macdonald – which includes the documentary Touching The Void and the fictional The Last King Of Scotland – takes a knock.
